After a few prototypes derived from other
models, Lamborghini finally decided to produce a car with a removable roof.
The Urraco Chasis was used as a starting point for this new project. The
Silhouette was introduced at the March 1976 Geneva auto show, where it
received a favorable reception. The interior design of the Silhouette resembled
the Urraco, but it was a strict two seater. Its exterior had a more aggressive
appearance, while it interior contained gauges that were easier to read.
It could travel from 0 to 60mph in seven seconds. The Silhouette could
not be sold in the United States because it did not meet the new, stricter
safety and anti-pollution legislation. Production was halted in 1978 after
only 58 were built. |
